Our Story
How we
got
here.
Sean Hall and Jeremy Chell founded Midwest Speed in August 2014
with a simple idea: build a Minnesota fastpitch program that took player development as seriously as college coaches do.
2014
Year One · One Team · 12 Players
We started with one team and a clear philosophy. Other clubs were running every kid through the same drills, asking 12-year-olds to specialize, and treating tournaments as the entire point. We saw a different way.
We wanted a program where development came first, where multi-sport athletes were welcomed, and where the coaching matched what these athletes deserved.
More than a decade later, that philosophy still drives every decision we make. Twenty-six teams across three competitive tiers. Five hundred-plus athletes coached and developed. Nearly 300 committed athletes to play in college. Eleven national-level teams traveling to the biggest tournaments including PGF, Alliance Fastpitch, and Colorado tournaments.
But the numbers aren't the point. The point is the daughter who came in shy at 10U and walked across the Power of Positivity stage as a college signee. The point is the multi-sport athlete who didn't have to choose. The point is a program that a family can stay in for nine years and still feel known.
What We Believe
Four principles.
Every
decision.
01 — Foundation
Development
first.
Tournaments matter. Wins matter. But neither is worth more than the long-term growth of a young athlete. We measure progress, not just outcomes — and we coach for the player she'll be at 22, not just the one she is at 12.
02 — Identity
Multi-sport
athletes.
The best fastpitch athletes are the best athletes. Our practice schedules, training cycles, and culture are built to support — not replace — basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track. Cross-training builds better players.
03 — Culture
Power
of
family
We believe in the power of family. Midwest Speed is a place where players look forward to being together, coaches share resources and ideas, and development happens at every level. We’ve built — and protect — a program where athletes feel supported, challenged, and connected.
04 — Future
The
next
level.
For our athletes who want to play college softball, we've built a real pipeline — Hudl profiles, exposure tournaments, NFCA-connected coaches, and a recruiting coordinator who knows the programs your daughter is targeting.
The People
Built by people
who've
been there.
